OFFICE MEMORANDUM

The community of North Park is clearly the new hotspot in San Diego. North Park has undergone such extensive renovation in just the last few years, it’s difficult to keep track of the restaurants, boutiques, furniture stores, cafés & art galleries have opened near the corner 30th Street & University Avenue.

The scale of the streets, the hustle & bustle of foot traffic & the diversity of the residents have inspired comparisons of North Park with neighborhoods in Brooklyn, San Francisco, Hollywood & Chicago.

The battle for the best uptown Art walk remains between Ray at Night (2nd Saturday of each month) and North Park Nights (3rd Saturday of each month).  Both showcase North Park art studios, galleries, architecture firms & cafes hosting special events, art shows & live music performances.

The first record of cocktails being served at 3936 30th Street was the opening night of The Belvedere, in 1946 (you should see the pictures).  As of 1956, the San Diego edition of Polk’s Business Directory shows the location as The Office.  Fast-forward to 1983, George Scolari bought & personalized his new bar, calling it Scolari’s Office.  Scolari’s Office became a popular neighborhood bar and later a famous punk rock venue known all across the United States- perhaps San Diego’s own CBGB.

For the record, it was in June of 2008 that the major renovation was completed & Scolari’s Office became The Office once again.  The physical & cultural landscape of the daily grind has changed in just the last decade.  With devices such as the Blackberry, the Iphone, Ipad, laptop computers & terms like telecommuting & WiFi- we’ve adopted ways to be productive anywhere, anytime.  In short, thinking outside the cubicle is to be expected (By the way, we have free WiFi at The Office, with plenty of outlets for keep your laptop charged).

We can all agree that we’ve imagined this scene: kicking our feet up in our boss’s office, sitting in a leather throne behind a rich walnut desk, cocktail in hand.  The aesthetic of The Office less NBC’s hit show The Office and more AMC’s hit show Mad Men (on heavy rotation while you sip on one of our Signature cocktails).

The concept behind The Office Bar combines the comfort and personality of a classic cocktail lounge with the attitude & atmosphere to make you feel like a corporate executive.  Some have described The Office as being modern, minimalist or having a ‘film noir feeling’, but we think you should come see for yourself.

The seating at the bar is a row of armchairs- a perfect fit for the board of directors.  The tones of the interior are moody- a graphite-colored concrete bar, rich black booth seating, wood floor for your dancing pleasure, walnut detailing, custom chrome pendant lamps, deep tinted mirror & custom louvred room dividers.  Plans are in the works for more changes to the interior, seating, & lighting.  You are encouraged to experience this process & what will prove to be an exciting work in progress.

The Office has a great selection of wine, champagne, premium draft beer & a full range of spirits, highlighted by our unique Specialty Cocktail Menu.

The Office is open daily 5pm-2am with the best Happy Hour in the neighborhood:
2 for 1 Prices.  All Drinks.  7 Days.  5-8pm.

Feel free to order in from one of several neighborhood restaurants; we’ll have it delivered to you at your barstool or booth.

The Office shows all Chargers, Lakers, NFL, NBA, NCAA & MLB, NHL games in HD.  It's not all about sports, though.  The Office is available for Birthday Parties, Special Events, Benefits, Mixers, etc.

Nightly entertainment starts at 10pm with Djs and live music.  Please click on the ‘Calendar’ link for event details while visiting the website (officebarinc.com).  To get updates sent directly to your Iphone or PDA, click on the Facebook Icon & sign up to become a Fan of The OfficeBAR San Diego.
